Heartbreak Hotel Ring - RG1070C1
Recently I was driving down Pembina Highway lamenting a lost love. This led me to become thoroughly maudlin over all the disappointments and failures that had ever occurred, or failed to occur, in my love life.
So, I made this ring as an expression of the sum total of all the relationship angst I have ever experienced. It turned out really well, too. It says hurt and anger and frustration better than any other piece I know. It's actually quite jarring when you look at it closely.
This ring is made through the lost wax casting process, and what could possibly be more emo than the loss of lost wax casting? I started by carving a nice wax for a men's ring in my own size. I then set about venting into the carving. I took all sorts of sharp pointy objects like exacto knives, nails, and chisels to it.
While I was doing that I talked to it. I called it all kinds of names. I told it how I had been hurt. Then I switched to a small torch while I discussed how I had hurt others and things I had said or done which I regretted.
Then I finished up with some more sharp pointy things accompanied by swearing and primal screams. It's a good thing I work by myself late at night as making this ring was not a pretty process. But it worked so very well.
