Grisaille Skull Broach (Portfolio) - BH1158N6

This enameled skull broach was a lot of fun to make.

It was made using the grisaille technique where the image was built up in layers of white over a black background.

There are well over a dozen layers on this piece.

The metal base is a nice solid 1.3mm of fine silver. The findings are standard broach findings.

I was really happy with the way some of the whites caught the colour and texture of old bone.

This piece was inspired by Lenore comics: except that it came out a little scarier than the skulls Lenore wears.

That's OK, no doubt it will wind up on a little much scarier person.
