General Information & FAQ

This page has the purpose of covering some general information and answering some common questions we get frequently asked about our site and products.

Returns

I do my best to build jewellery that will last for many generations. I guarantee our materials and craftsmanship for a period of one full year from the date of purchase.

Damage to jewellery through mechanical, chemical or thermal mishandling voids the guarantee. The buyer is responsible for any shipping returns on any returns.

Stones

"Can you make me something with my favourite stone in it?" Yes we can.  If you can pay for it, we can make you a piece with your favourite stone in it.

There are a few exceptions where types of stones are particularly rare. However, for most types of stones it’s just a matter of money and knowing where to look. We love finding and working with unusual stones.

Just as a note, I don’t work with synthetic gem stones.  I believe they are not reflective of the quality I want to produce in my finished designs.

I try to restrict our designs to untreated natural stones.  There are a few exceptions in the collection, like Dichroic Glass which is unique enough to making working with it an option.

Karat Gold

"Can you make that in 10 karat gold so it will be cheaper?"

Sorry, I am not interested in working with 9 and 10 karat gold. The purity of gold is measured in karats. Twenty four karat gold is pure gold. Nine and 10 karat is less than half gold. It’s cheap junk and I am not interested in working with low karat gold.

I am happy to work in 14 karat, 18 karat, or higher karat gold. I also enjoy alloying unusual colours of gold. So if you are looking for something in 20 karat red gold, I love doing that sort of work.

Silver Turned Black (Tarnishing )

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. The trace of copper makes silver much harder and more durable. However, that copper can also tarnish and turn your entire piece black.

This is normal in jewellery that has not been worn for a few weeks. If it’s just starting to turn black, rub it vigorously with a piece of coarse cloth such as denim or canvas.

If it is seriously tarnished and the coarse cloth doesn’t shine it up, there are a number of products commercially available for polishing silver (such as Silvo). These work well, but be careful not to get them on the parts of your jewellery that you want to be black as they will shine everything they come in contact with.

We are beginning to use more and more argentium sterling silver which contains a bit of the element germanium which prevents tarnishing and we are very happy with the results.

Sizing

"I like one of the rings on your site, but it’s the wrong size. Can you make it the right size for me?" absolutely yes! Most items can be resized to fit. If we can’t resize it we will just make another from scratch to fit you.

Making Items from Pictures or Drawings

Send us a picture (hand drawn sketch, photograph, or picture from a magazine) and we can usually make it for you. Remember to include your size, the metal you want it in, what stones you want used, etc.

Small Sculptures Or Cast Items

"I've always wanted a tiny statue of a warthog to put on my desk. Can you make me an original small sculpture of a wart hog?"

We can make small sculptures of most things. We have done everything from paper weights to gaming miniatures.
