Morgana Pendant - PD1217A6

This is an intensely experimental piece and also my first really successful attempt at integrating ammolite and classical enameling techniques. I am really happy with it.

The stone itself is also something of a test batch as Ron, our amazing lapidary, constructed this stone and then dyed the background clay matrix a nice black to produce a sharper contrast in the colours within the stone itself.

Real jewellery enamel is the art of fusing coloured glass to metal and is a far more complicated and durable product than the coloured paints and epoxies sold widely as 'enamel'.

I then built the setting from 1.3mm fine silver and enameled it using the classic sgrafitto enameling technique. (Archived portfolio piece). I could create something similar but never identical because of the nature of the enamelling process and the nature of ammolite.
